I Left My 6 Figure Job To Work 80 Hours A Week | Here’s Why

In 2023, I left a 13-year career as a drone pilot to pursue investment management. Being a drone pilot is a pretty cool gig, I will say. I had created a life where I even lived in other countries all over the world. In this blog, I will discuss why I left to work 80 hours a week in investment management.

Boy, oh boy, what a journey. It has been 24 months since I finally decided to pursue investment management. I had spent 3 years bumping my head against the wall, miserably failing to break through a notoriously closed industry. I had watched all the movies like The Big Short, Too Big to Fail, and Wall Street Money Never Sleeps, and for some reason, I knew I needed a way in.

Make no mistake, I don’t work on Wall Street and serve corporate banks. Through trial and error, I discovered the RIA community and professional investment advisors that advise. Subject matter experts like a lawyer, or a doctor. Being from a lower middle-class family, I had never heard of private investment advisors; I had never met one, and the idea almost seemed surreal, sitting down with families and constructively managing assets.

The RIA community introduced me to asset managers who are incredibly well-versed in asset management and genuine professionals who care about their clients and are an integral part of the family’s success and well-being. 24 months later, it couldn’t have been a better decision, Just like leaving to go to boot camp and not knowing what is on the other side. Sometimes, the best things are on the other side of fear.
